About the Artist

J. Waid Griffin was born in the Texas Panhandle. As a child he showed a keen interest in the Arts, especially drawing and painting. He received private art lessons and later attended classes at the Garden & Arts Center in Lubbock. Waid always dreamed of working and supporting himself as an artist, so he earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a Master’s Degree in Music Composition, both from the Schools of Art and Music at Texas Tech University. In 1988, after a move to Albuquerque, NM, Waid made a commitment to work as an artist. He has participated in the Arts ever since, showing in local, regional, and national venues and teaching painting at the Art League of New Mexico. Waid continues to paint in watercolor as well as oil, and to create stoneware sculpture.

He is a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America
Waid has studied in workshops with Mark Daily, Kerry Dunn, Quiang Huang, Robert Liberace, Michael Lynch, Kevin Macpherson, Teresa Oaxaca, Phil Starke, and Natalie Italiano of Studio Incomminati.
